Josh, a 17 year old high school junior, and his mother came to the library.
Josh was not a good student at school and was very reluctant to work on a paper for his American History class. The teacher just told the students to pick any topic from American History and write a paper.
When Josh had no idea what to write about the librarian asked what were his hobbies or interests. Josh became animated and described how he loved sports. The librarian then suggested they look at books on the history of sports in America and suggested he could write about American sports from an era such as the colonial times or he could write about the history of an American sport. He became engaged and began exploring the resources the library had to offer.
Several weeks later his mother returned to the library to let us know that Josh had gotten a B+ on his report, which was the first good grade he ever received in school!
