Get to know Darby…
“Hello! My name is Darby and I’m a junior at my local high school. I have always loved to read for no reason other than the simple enjoyment of it, and my favorite genre is fantasy. Outside of reading, I love music and learning new things. I have a broad variety of interests, ranging from linguistics to music to psychology. One day, I hope to travel all around the world.”
Where is your home library and what do you love about it?
“What I would consider to be my “home” library is the Waxhaw Public Library, although I love libraries of any kind. I consider this to be my “home” because I was able to, in a sense, grow up there. Even though it is small, I can remember going there ever since I was young. My favorite thing about it is the size, because the smallness of it has allowed me to get to know the librarians who work there, as well as a few of the patrons through my time volunteering there.”
Favorite Book?
“Caraval by Stephanie Garber and Wintersong by S. Jae Jones are definitely my two favorite books! I enjoyed the entire Caraval series, really.”
What do you want legislators to know about libraries?
“I would like legislators to know the profound impact that libraries have on the community, especially in today’s day and age. Libraries are crucial to bringing communities together, and they can help ground us in humanity in the face of constant technological development. They play a huge part in the lives of everybody in a community, whether directly or indirectly, and no matter what the age of each individual. They should be protected and preserved in order to continue their important work.”
