Get to know Katie…
I am 8 years old and in second grade. Our family homeschools. I am in Cub Scouts 4-H. I love reading and spending time with my little sister and big brother. I also like drawing and coloring in my free time. Our family loves to play boardgames and play outside. I like riding my bike.
What made you interested in being a library ambassador?
I like reading a lot and we love checking out books from the library. I thought it would be great to share my love of the library to maybe help other kids be more interested in reading, too.
Would you like to give a shout out to your home library?
Our home library is the Concord Library. I like the kids’ section there, because it has tons of books, and the children’s librarians are very helpful. When I’m not sure what books to check out, the librarians give me suggestions on what books I might enjoy.
What is your earliest library memory?
Our family recently moved to Concord from Jacksonville, Florida. My earliest memory of visiting the library was going to story time with my mom and older brother at the Jacksonville Library. I liked meeting other kids and listening to stories. Then we would check out books to take home and read.
Favorite Book?
I like books by Roald Dahl, especially The BFG.
What do you want legislators to know about libraries?
Libraries are helpful with school work and help kids be creative. You can choose whatever books you want and explore new things. I want legislators to know how important it is for kids to be able to use the library. This is especially helpful for kids who can’t afford books – they can still have the chance to learn and enjoy books and other things at the library.
