Kate Engelbrecht spent 30 minutes helping a grandmother and her school age granddaughter find AR books.
This was such a long interaction because the grand daughter was repeatedly failing AR tests at school and in addition to help finding an AR book on her level, the grandmother was looking for information on how AR works and ways to increase reading comprehension.
Kate helped them find a couple of books, demonstrated how they could read out loud taking turns, and she also gave the grandmother the literacy booklet “A Child Becomes a Reader.”
Two weeks later the grandmother stopped back by MTI to thank Kate again and tell her that her granddaughter had successfully passed 2 AR tests scoring 100%.
