Adam is an eleven year-old boy who attends many of our library’s children’s programs.
His mother explained that outside of church activities, there are very few activities or programs in the community that aren’t cost-prohibitive for their family. Adam is homeschooled and an only child, and he doesn’t have many opportunities to meet other kids his age.
The library’s weekly programs for school aged children, along with special events throughout the year, have provided Adam the social interaction he needs.
At one particular craft program, Adam and the other children were making “All About Me” posters, and Adam was engaged in an animated discussion with the boy next to him about the things he was putting on his poster. He looked at me and said, “I’m glad I came to the library today because I made a new friend.” The boy next to him smiled and said, “Me too, a best friend!”
