“Reading books felt like a secret gate to knowledge that I had once been locked out. The stories themselves had a profound effect on my childhood development, and my avid reading provoked a constant hunger for knowledge. I was always talking, learning, observing, and over time I became quite outspoken.” (excerpt)
“My name is Nivitha Mavuluri and I attend South Iredell High School. This year I will be a junior in high school, and I can’t wait to make the most out of it. In school I play two varsity sports; Tennis and Lacrosse, and I love the competition they inspire. Recently, I’ve decided to focus on helping my community through service. I volunteer at the Ada Jenkins center and through school clubs such as Interact and Red Cross. My favorite subject in school is Science. The world of logic and experimentation is something I am drawn to. This past year my partner and I were able to attend the state science fair, which was an awesome experience.
I love to read. From books about psychology to huge Stephen King novels, anything that captures my interest. From a young age, I was an avid reader; a habit I could never give up. My first step into serious reading was a result of me trying to learn English. Today, I read to learn as much as I can.”
