“Libraries are important to the future of North Carolina, they are richly rooted in America’s past. American culture and society would not be the same today if libraries had never existed.”
“My name is Abigail Smith and I am 12 years old. I go to Bridge Creek Academy and I enjoy school most of the time. If you asked me what my favorite book is I would not have an instant answer for you .
In my spare time I enjoy anything from reading to being outside to painting my nails to doing crafts (and lots of other things too!) I have two crazy younger brothers, and an adorably annoying baby sister. I also have a cat. I don’t know how I’m supposed to end this so now it’s over. The End.”
Abigail is a 6th grade home school student from Cary, NC. Her excellent essay details the integral part libraries play in her life and the very fabric of American history and society.

I really enjoyed reading your essay, Abigail. I’m glad that the library has had a positive impact in your life. I encourage you to continue to read and learn and never take education for granted.
Abigail, we are so proud of you!
