Gillian Moore of Matthews, North Carolina, a freshman at David W. Butler High School, has a variety of interests including fine arts, community service and sports. Gillian has been an active member of the Teen Advisory Group at the Matthews Branch of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library since 2012, and was a Teen Summer Intern in 2014. Being involved with the Public Library programs has given her the opportunity to gain computer, marketing, leadership, teamwork and public speaking skills. Gillian has applied to be a Teen Lead Intern this summer, which will allow her to help train and mentor new summer interns.
In addition to her volunteer work at the library Gillian is a busy student at her school. She is on Butler’s JV Cheerleading and Competition Cheer and JV Track team, is a member of the Freshman-Sophomore Board, and plays clarinet with the Concert Band.
Gillian’s other hobbies include ballet and modern dance and competing in local teen pageants. In 2013 Gillian promoted the benefits of public libraries as her community service focus in the Miss Gastonia Outstanding Teen Pageant. “I intend to use my status as an NCLA Student Library Ambassador to continue to promote public libraries in the 2015 pageant.”
